Skagway Ore Terminal Expansion

Project Overview

The Port of Skagway is the northernmost, ice-free, deep water port in North America. It serves as a year round transportation hub between Alaska, the Yukon Territory, Northwest Territories, Asia, and Europe.

Project Scope

JDS completed the expansion of the Skagway terminal facility, located in the remote northern isolated port of Skagway, Alaska, which included demolition of existing building and foundation, environmental stewardship, lead abatement program, and adherence to the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) reporting requirements. The demolition required adherence to proper handling and disposal of contaminated structures utilizing the JDS prepared lead abatement plan. JDS implemented a complete Health, Safety and Environmental program. JDS employed and managed local contractors to construct the facility. This included the construction, operation and maintenance of all electrical, mechanical and structural equipment, the operations and maintenance of mobile and stationary equipment, first aid services, environmental and operational reporting services, local town stewardship and approved change orders.
