Project OverviewJDS was commissioned by Sureway Construction Group Ltd. to excavate underground facilities including wine storage tunnels and a wine tasting room as part of the development of the O’Rourke Winery located in Lake Country, BC. The total tunnel development amounted to 270 linear metres of 5 m by 5 m development, 50 m of 2 m by 3 m mandrift and a drop raise, including three primary portals. The focus of the work was on quality, aesthetics and long-term stability of the excavation as opposed to advance rate. Tunnel profiles varied throughout the facility depending on the end use and the depth from surface including mass excavation areas up to 8 m wide.
JDS performed all underground project management, engineering, mining and ground support. JDS completed the work on a fixed cost per metre basis, but stayed highly flexible to the client’s needs as design concepts changed
