A message from Gord Bussieres
Reflecting on my 18th year as a JDS employee, pride is the first thing that comes to mind. Thanks to the courage and resilience demonstrated over the years by our diverse and capable team, I’m as proud as I ever was. Together, we launched and grew an enterprise that refuses to accept mediocrity, challenges the status quo, attracts the best people in the industry, and is growing faster than ever before.
Let’s be honest: It would have been easier to remain under the wings of the big companies many of us left to venture out on our own. But JDS is a special breed that sets the bar high thanks to our united vision of delivering the best possible service to our clients.
Two of my favorite projects —the Minto Mine in Yukon, and Tahoe Resources Silver Mine in Guatemala —were delivered on time and on budget . Both jobs handed us the good, the bad and the ugly, and forced us to grow fast and adapt even faster as individuals and as a company. The lessons learned through these and many other projects continues to fuel our people and our business today.
Much can be learned from the past when planning our lives and careers. When thinking about my future, two words stand out: “No regrets”.
Indeed, this is one of the foundational mottoes at JDS. Having no regrets allows us to approach challenges with resilience and a growth mindset. Instead of being paralyzed by fear of failure or past mistakes, we view setbacks as opportunities for growth and development. We become more adaptable, learning from each experience, adjusting our strategies accordingly, and taking responsibility for our choices and actions.
“No regrets” is also a mindset that shapes strategy and policy. You won’t regret something if you’ve done all you can to ensure a positive outcome and avoid a negative one. That’s the thinking behind our aptly-named “A.C.T.I.O.N.” model, which encapsulates our values-driven Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) approach:
